The 19th Annual Yamaha Mark Hahn Memorial - Havasu 300 presented by Hot Products, Jettrim, Impros, Riva, Ford Bros. Racing, Works H20, ADA Racing, Atlantis Enterprises, DS Sales, Mikuni USA, WSM Parts, Cometic Gasket, Rickter, RRP was held on Saturday, February 25, 2023. After 18 years, Jim Russell of DSM Events handed the reins over to Ross Wallach, RPM Racing Enterprises to promote the event and with a new race promoter came a new location, Lake Havasu State Park, Point Beach. The event saw top riders from the United States and 6 Countries compete. All week weather reports indi- cated strong winds (25 – 35 mph+) and rain. Mother nature didn’t disappoint as the eerily calm start of the race quickly became nasty as Lake Havasu turned into a furious ocean by the 2nd hour and only got worse from there. Race speed’s slowed from 80+ mph high at the beginning down to a crawl in some parts of the race course with wind and waves pushing the racers and their machines to the limit. The team of Marchael Buhisan and Suphathat Footrakul #26 had an early lead over the field of runabouts and led to just over 23 laps but were forced to pit with unex- pected problems. That opened the door for the #553 Sea-Doo Team of Anthony Radetic and Les Cooke to take the lead and battle with Team Kawasaki / Per- formance Fiberglass #137 Mark Gomez & Bobby Kerns for the rest of the race. Another Kawasaki Rider, Michael Perry, #27 Impros, riding solo as an “Ironman” was thrown into the mix for the possible overall win. With well over 5 hours on the long 10 mile course, the 9 time veteran of the Mark Hahn Me- morial/Havasu 300 overall win went to Anthony Radetic & Les Cooke on the Sea-Doo #553 who also garnered 1st place in the Vet/Master Open class being the 1st team to complete the 30 lap challenge. 2nd place overall and 1st in the Manufacturer Stock Class went to #137 team of Gomez and Kerns on John Crabb’s Performance Fiberglass Kawasaki. Rounding out the podium was another international team #26 of Buhisan & Footrakul on a Yamaha. On the Stand Up side the 3 way battle between the #57 Team of Chris Steenbock, Stevie Bascom & Ryan Schiebe, the #145 Team of Deegan Newton, Jeremy Newton & Joey Morneault and the #125 team of Larry Caparella & Josh Simon proved just as exciting as the wind and waves end- lessly pummeled the stand up riders. In the end the #57 Team would take the overall win in Stand Up Mod Class completing 20 laps with the #125 Team finish- ing 2nd overall and 1st in the Sportsman 2 Stroke class with 19 laps. The #125 Team ended the day 3rd overall 2nd in the 4 Stroke Stand Up Mod Class with 19 laps completed.
